1:1 Architect's Regrowth Pod.

Designed after the devastation of the 2009 Victorian bushfires fire resistant pod that can be built upon. The pod itself was fabricated and delivered on-site on the back of a truck. A competition was conducted for entries to build upon the pod.

Modular Architecture - Architecture as Food for Architecture: What I know of so far

Negatives:

  • What do we do with the waste if it cannot be recycled

  • How do we eliminate waste

  • Can have 'cheap' look

  • Off site assembly - Embodied energy (transportation)

Positives:

  • Cab adapt to changes in society

  • Manipulate function and the way people manoeuvre around spaces in coherence with societal changes. eg. The way society perceives certain functions and building typologies.

  • Cheap and easy to construct

  • Can be re-used, recycled, upcycled

What can be extracted from that?

Opposites of worst solutions:

  • Public space

  • Social interaction

  • Encourage pedestrian movement

  • Able to pass through site

  • Public engagement

Worst Solution for Howard Smith Wharves?

  • Another bridge

  • Another wharf

  • Something that disrupts traffic (pedestrian) flow

  • Concrete box

  • Car park

  • Factory

  • Privatisation
